International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
The United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on 21st March 2022 focused on the theme “Voices for Action Against Racism" to highlight the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation in all areas of decision-making to prevent and combat racial discrimination.
The day also had the purpose of reaffirming the importance of full respect for the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and of protecting civic space; and recognised the contribution of individuals and organisations that stand up against racial discrimination and the challenges they face.
Rightfully, racist laws and practices have been abolished in many countries, and an international framework has been built for fighting racism, guided by the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This Convention is thankfully now nearing universal ratification, yet still, in all regions, too many individuals, communities and societies still sadly suffer from the injustice and stigma that racism brings.
QHS fully supports the United Nations General Assembly's position that reiterates that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and have the potential to contribute constructively to the development and well-being of their societies. Anyone casting their eye over our diverse workforce will be able to see for themselves that QHS are active proponents of all-year round diversity, and consequently have an inclusive and diverse workforce reflecting the communities that we serve. We will continue to support campaigns which look to promote diversity, remove inequality, and unacceptable behaviour.
